The SWRI was established in 2014 after the merger of four research units. Two of them are located in Thessaloniki (Thermi and Sindos) and the other two in Athens (Department of Agricultural Engineering and Department of Soil Science). The administrative seat of the Institute is located in Thermi, Thessaloniki.
