LABORATORY OF SOIL, PLANT TISSUE & WATER ANALYSES

The Department of Soil Science of Athens at the Institute of Soil & Water Resources, based in Lykovrysi, Attica, focuses on research and sustainable management of soil and water resources. It features modern laboratories with advanced instruments for field and laboratory analyses. The soil laboratory is accredited by ESYD (525-4) under ELOT EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and operates within its scope of accreditation. Experienced staff participate in continuous training and European interlaboratory proficiency tests, including WEPAL-QUASIMEME (Wageningen). The laboratory provides analyses of soils, waters, plant tissues, and organic agricultural residues, supporting precision agriculture, crop nutrition, environmental monitoring, and evaluation of agricultural by-products, contributing to sustainable agro-environmental strategies and resilient agroecosystems while addressing climate change.

  • Comprehensive guidelines for sampling soils, plant tissues, irrigation water, and organic materials to ensure analytical accuracy and reliability.
  • Soil Analysis Fertility assessment with tailored fertilization recommendations to optimize crop productivity and soil health.
  • Plant Tissue Analysis Leaf diagnostics to detect nutrient deficiencies, excesses, or toxicities, ensuring balanced crop nutrition and maximum yields.
  • Water Quality Testing Irrigation water evaluation to determine suitability for agricultural use and prevent potential crop damage.
  • Organic Materials Assessment Analysis of compost and processed organic materials to verify quality and agricultural suitability.

Τhe laboratory delivers precise analytical data and evidence-based recommendations to enhance agronomic efficiency, optimize nutrient management, and promote sustainable agricultural systems.

  • Development of comprehensive soil fertility studies, crop nutritional status assessments, fertilization plans, and agronomic practices to enhance productivity and sustainability.
  • Soil management and crop nutrition strategies designed to mitigate climate change impacts through optimized fertilization protocols.
  • Sustainable management of liquid and solid agricultural wastes to improve soil productivity and nutrient cycling.
  • Soil suitability assessment for agricultural waste disposal and residue application, including qualitative evaluation of organic amendments.
  • Implementation of agronomic practices for soil restoration and degradation prevention

Our evidence-based approach integrates soil science, agronomy, and environmental stewardship to deliver practical solutions that enhance agricultural performance while protecting natural resources
