Academic Profiles
"Charalampos Doulgeris graduated from the Department of Agriculture of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He completed postgraduate studies in Land Reclamation (specialization in Water Resources) and obtained his PhD in Water Resources Management from the same Department, supported by a scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation. His postdoctoral research at the University of Huddersfield (UK) focused on the assessment of environmental impacts on the biosphere arising from the geological disposal of radioactive waste. He also holds a Certificate of Pedagogical and Teaching Competence.
Dr Doulgeris serves as a Principal Researcher at the Soil and Water Resources Institute of the Hellenic Agricultural Organisation DIMITRA (ELGO‑DIMITRA). His research spans a broad spectrum of interconnected fields. He works on the management and simulation of water resources with a strong environmental focus, delving into irrigation water management and the challenges of deficit irrigation. His expertise extends to mathematical models that describe water flow and pollutant transport in soils and aquifers, as well as hydrological and hydraulic modelling of rivers and lakes. He also investigates how climate change affects water systems and ecosystems, studies environmentally sustainable minimum river flows and lake levels, and examines the impacts of microplastics on agricultural soil health, as well as soil amendment performance. Over the last twenty-five years, he has contributed to more than thirty research projects and has authored over 150 scientific publications and technical project reports. His teaching experience encompasses university lectures and professional training seminars."
