The Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing Laboratory aims at the development and application of modern spatial analysis technologies for the monitoring, assessment, and sustainable management of soil and water resources. Through the integration of satellite data, geospatial analysis, and modeling techniques, the laboratory supports the mapping of soil properties, crop monitoring, water needs estimation, and the detection of environmental changes. Furthermore, it develops decision support tools for precision agriculture, natural disaster management, and adaptation to climate change, contributing to the optimization of agricultural production and environmental protection. Additionally, it creates innovative online geospatial platforms for the livestock sector, supporting the geospatial recording of livestock and enhancing operational readiness against epizootics.
- Development of geospatial databases and WebGIS applications
- Spatial interpolation, geostatistical analysis, and machine learning (kriging, IDW, ML)
- Digital Soil Mapping
- Processing and analysis of satellite images (Sentinel, Landsat, MODIS)
- Calculation of spectral indices for vegetation and moisture (NDVI, EVI, NDWI, LAI)
- Analysis of Digital Elevation Models (DEM) and derived products
- Land use mapping and change detection
- Time-series analysis of satellite data for crop monitoring
- Mapping using drones (UAV)
- Digital mapping and monitoring of soil properties using remote sensing techniques
- Integration of multi-source data for integrated agricultural systems management
- Mapping and monitoring of soil organic matter and carbon stocks
- Development of online geospatial platforms for livestock recording and management, and epizootic prevention
- Precision agriculture applications and mapping of spatio-temporal soil variability
- Monitoring of cultivation practices and yield estimation using satellite data
- Assessment of climate change impacts on soil and water resources
- Development of spatial sustainability and soil health indicators
- Development of decision-making platforms for the sustainable management of the agricultural and livestock sectors
