Dr. Panagiotis Kougias is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Soil and Water Resources of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization DIMITRA. He holds a Bachelor and M.Eng. degree in Agriculture (specialization in Land Reclamation, Soil Science and Agricultural Engineering, 2005), an MSc (2007) and a PhD (2011) in Agricultural Engineering from the School of Agriculture of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has previously served as research staff at the same School and spent a decade at the Technical University of Denmark, working as a postdoctoral researcher, researcher, senior researcher and Associate Professor, gaining extensive international experience in environmental biotechnology and bioprocess engineering. His research interests focus on the treatment of agro-industrial waste, the design and optimization of bioreactors, anaerobic bioprocesses, biogas production and upgrading, recovery of high value-added products and environmental microbiology. He has authored more than 150 scientific publications (including over 112 papers in ISI journals, H-index 47) and has supervised 7 PhD candidates and more than 12 MSc students. Since 2020 he has been listed among the world’s top 2% scientists, while he has received IKY scholarships for his MSc and PhD studies and has extensive experience as principal investigator, coordinator or work package leader in competitive national and European projects (GSRT, HFRI, ERANET, LIFE, Horizon Europe).
