Ο Δρ. Κωνσταντίνος Ν. Κοντογιαννόπουλος είναι Εντεταλμένος Ερευνητής στο Ινστιτούτο Εδαφοϋδατικών Πόρων του Ελληνικού Γεωργικού Οργανισμού ΔΗΜΗΤΡΑ και Διπλωματούχος Χημικός Μηχανικός (2004, Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης). Είναι κάτοχος Διδακτορικού Διπλώματος (2011) από τη Σχολή Χημικών Μηχανικών του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης.

Το ερευνητικό του αντικείμενο επικεντρώνεται στη μηχανική βιοδιεργασιών και την κυκλική βιοοικονομία, ενσωματώνοντας σχεδιασμό, μοντελοποίηση και βελτιστοποίηση διεργασιών για την αξιοποίηση οργανικών ενώσεων και αγροβιομηχανικών παραπροϊόντων για την παραγωγή προϊόντων υψηλής προστιθέμενης αξίας. Εξειδικεύεται στον σχεδιασμό και τη βελτιστοποίηση διεργασιών παραγωγής βιοενέργειας (βιοαέριο, βιομεθάνιο) και βιοπροϊόντων.

Διαθέτει εκτενή εμπειρία στην ανάπτυξη και λειτουργία βιοαντιδραστήρων εργαστηριακής και πιλοτικής κλίμακας, στην αναερόβια χώνευση, στις διεργασίες ζύμωσης και στη βιολογική μετατροπή CO₂. Εφαρμόζει προηγμένες στατιστικές μεθόδους (όπως τη Μεθοδολογία Επιφάνειας Απόκρισης) και τεχνικές Μηχανικής Μάθησης (όπως και Τεχνητά Νευρωνικά Δίκτυα) για τη βελτιστοποίηση διεργασιών και την πρόβλεψη της απόδοσης τους.

Η εξειδίκευσή του περιλαμβάνει επίσης την τεχνοοικονομική αξιολόγηση και την ανάλυση κύκλου ζωής συστημάτων βιοδιυλιστηρίων, επιτρέποντας την εκτίμηση σκοπιμότητας, βιωσιμότητας και περιβαλλοντικού αποτυπώματος πριν την εφαρμογή. Συνδυάζοντας αρχές χημικής μηχανικής με εργαλεία μηχανικής μάθησης, αναπτύσσει πρακτικές λύσεις για εντατικοποίηση διεργασιών, βελτίωση αποδοτικότητας και μείωση εκπομπών.

Είναι συν-συγγραφέας σε περισσότερες από 50 δημοσιεύσεις σε διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά με κριτές (20 σε περιοδικά Q1), πάνω από 60 εργασίες σε διεθνή συνέδρια και ένα κεφάλαιο βιβλίου. Το έργο του έχει συγκεντρώσει περισσότερες από 1.100 αναφορές (Scopus h-index: 22). Έχει συμμετάσχει ενεργά σε 16 εθνικά και ευρωπαϊκά ερευνητικά έργα, σε αρκετά εκ των οποίων διετέλεσε υπεύθυνος πακέτου εργασίας και συντονιστής.
