ABOUT US
The Soil and Water Resources Institute (SWRI) of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization DEMETRA was founded in 2014. Its administrative headquarters are located in Thermi, Thessaloniki. The Institute includes the Department of Agricultural Engineering in Athens, the Department of Soil Science in Athens, and the research unit in Sindos, Thessaloniki.
The SWRI conducts research in the following areas:
- Sustainable management and treatment of soil and water resources
- Geoinformatics
- Precision agriculture
- Mechanization of crops
- Smart agriculture
- Development of anti-pollution methods for the protection of soil and water resources
- Management of agricultural and urban waste
Research at the Institute is supported by modern technological tools, such as geographic information systems, remote sensing, mathematical models, artificial intelligence, and communication systems between computers and sensors for observing environmental parameters in the field.
